MESOTHERAPY
Mesotherapy is a technique used in equine medicine mainly to treat problems of the neck, back and pelvis. It is widely used in human medicine to treat a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain.

Mesotherapy involves injecting small amounts of medicine intradermally using very short needles. By stimulating the superficial nerve fibers, inhibition of pain transmission to deeper structures is achieved. The goal of mesotherapy is to stop the vicious cycle of pain and limited mobility/muscle spasm in a specific area.

Before proceeding to mesotherapy, it is extremely important to thoroughly evaluate your horse’s condition. For example, if your horse has chronic back pain or stiffness, a diagnostic investigation may be needed to diagnose the cause and identify the affected area before the treatment. Mesotherapy lasts approximately 15-20 minutes.

Among other advantages, mesotherapy is not accompanied by the side effects of chronic oral or intravenous administration of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (gastric ulcers, nephrotoxicity).

The number of treatments required for a horse with back pain depends on several factors:

  • The cause of the pain
  • The severity of the pain
  • Chronicity

Are there any side effects of mesotherapy?

Although there is a risk of infection in the needle entry areas, this is minimized by thoroughly disinfecting the treatment area.

There is also the option of using non-prohibited, for the competitions, substances (anti-doping control) that allow the direct participation of the horse in sports events.
